Ein Escape Room ist ein Spiel, bei dem ein Team von Spielern eine Reihe von Rätseln lösen muss, um aus dem Raum zu entkommen, in welchem sie „eingesperrt" sind. In der Regel gibt es ein Thema und eine Geschichte, die die Rätsel miteinander verbinden. Digitale Escape Rooms, wie auch physische Escape Rooms, werden oft in Bildungseinrichtungen eingesetzt, wo sie individuell genutzt werden können. Sie sind oft am erfolgreichsten, wenn sie von einem Team genutzt werden.<br />

Um einige Datenmanagement-Konzepte auf eine unbeschwerte Art und Weise einführen zu können, haben Mitglieder der Datenmanagement-Support-Teams der VU Amsterdam, der TU Eindhoven und der Leidener Universitätsbibliotheken, Centre for Digital Scholarship, gemeinsam den Data Horror Escape Room entwickelt, der Grundkenntnisse zu FDM-Konzepte vermittelt. Der Escape Room ist im Rahmen von Veranstaltungen rund um Halloween im Herbst 2020 entstanden, und deshalb sehen wir Vampire, Kürbisse und Gespenster.<br />
